Rifta
Rifta, a temperate peninsula to the Northeast, could hardly be called a united Nation. The origin of the state traces back to a shaky alliance amongst thieves centuries ago, long outlasting the original founders, yet even now they remain unified. To the eyes of my colleagues Rifta is seen as a cancerous nodule on the world which has been allowed to fester for far too long. Despite this view, I have come to find that they have a tenacity and shrewdness when dealing in business, a trait which has gained both the envy and enmity of many foreigners. It should be emphasized that under no circumstances should one ever trust a man from Rifta, especially when it comes to money.

eography
Due to it’s turbulent beginnings, the citizens of Rifta formed the nation on the north-eastern peninsula of Ferro. This peninsula is generally considered a somewhat meagre shrubland, with low hills and ravines along the interior. The north coast is dotted with large jutting outcroppings of brown stone cliffs, small inlets, and coves perfect for pirates to make their illicit dens. The south coast is gradual and slopes down to meet the sea, forming long sandy beaches dotted with fishing villages. Following these beaches to the north-east, one arrives at the tip of the peninsula, where the calm warm waters of Mauslock Bay (named for it’s capital) are located. The capital city is nestled up against low hills which rise sporadically on the many spits of land that jut out into the bay.
Major Cities
The city of Mauslock is the capital of Rifta, located on the north-eastern end of the peninsula. The city is a thriving if somewhat dangerous port with many corsairs and merchants alike traveling through to sell their wares.
nemies & Allies
Rifta has for centuries been at war with it’s neighbor to the west, Skahlia. This stems back to the early period when the Skahlians pushed the Riftan bandit clans almost to extinction. Due to this and an understandable jealousy for Skahlia’s powerful dragons, the Riftan army frequently sends raids to the west, pillaging and causing chaos on the northern coast.

History
The kingdom of Rifta was founded by necessity as an alliance between bandit kings long ago. According to the native records, there was a wild age before the kingdoms of Gamba and Bandar existed, when the inhabitants of Ferro were beginning to try their hands at forming cities and communities larger than small barbaric familial clans.
