Skahlia

Great Old Skahlia lies to the Northwest on the continent of Ferro, a land of dragon riders and exotic rituals. Their peculiar ways and custom of wearing ornamental masks has made it difficult for foreigners to learn much about them. They live in sprawling subterranean cities, as their nation gradually rises towards the ocean, ending in great cliff cities where they breed their dragon mounts. In order to travel in Skahlia you must have a patron of skahlian descent as your chaperone. This is not a suggestion, but rather a rule of law, as any foreigners who disobey are subject to summary execution.

eography

Skahlia resides within a great horn shaped peninsula which forms the northwest corner of the continent of Ferro. The land rises from the wilderness on the south end, and as one travels further into the kingdom, transitions from foothills to craggy moors and peat bogs. Travelling further eventually ends at the windswept cliffs which tower many meters above the sea. The stone here is black and cold, unable to hold the nutrients needed for crops. Many of the Skahlian towns and cities expand downward into tunnel systems rather than upward or outward.

Major Cities

In the lowlands the twin cities of Egala and Isbri specialize in smithing and crafting of various goods. Towards the center lies Takar Ona, a giant pit and sacred fortress city which acts as the trading hub for all of the settlements. Further north in the highlands, the capital city of Karkoon is a sprawling cliff city and port for vessels both aerial and nautical. To the northeast, near the Horn of Skahlia, Nakatoa lies within a region of high volcanic activity and houses many dragon dens.

nemies & Allies

Skahlia is in a perpetual blood feud with the nation of Rifta, as their history goes far back to the days when wandering bandit tribes would constantly harass and raid the precursors to Skahlian clans. Presently Rifta seems satisfied with small raids on the northern coast, and is seen by the Skahlians as only a nuisance at best.

Bandar holds a respect for Skahlian discipline, yet their lust for power and order clashes with the unique Skahlian traditions. Currently the two nations have trading agreements, and no military ambitions against one another.

Gamba is considered more of a wild territory rather than a consolidated kingdom to Skahlia, and so it is disregarded by the Skahlian conventional military. Due to the magical potency of the region, more scholarly members of Skahlian society keep a watchful eye to the southeast.

orld relations

Skahlia is extremely isolationist and does not care to interact with the outside world. They will allow only those who are spoken for by native Skahlians into the kingdom, and any whom are caught without a chaperone are arrested and in almost all circumstances put to death. They have local trade with many of their Ferronian brethren however, and this can be considered an indirect path to exploring their culture.

Horn of Skahlia

As the land rises towards the sea, the highest point forms a looming peak on the northeast corner of the Kingdom. Indeed, natives of the continent call the grand pinnacle the Horn of Skahlia, as it is a sacred site in Skahlian religion.
