Essay: Noble Houses Long & Forgotten

“…talks about various noble clans from the times before the black decade all the way back to the era just after Astriica fell.”

“Clan Grimstone was a militaristic clan of mountain tribes who were said to have ascended from the underworld. Their crest is a grasping hand bursting from the ground. Tales spoke of a pact and even interbreeding with mountain giants among the clan members, and some were of abnormal size. The clan is believed to have died out around 400 years ago, but legend says that they simply returned beneath the mountains and still reign over the deep dark caves of the Thousand Spears.”

“Clan Ratha was a wealthy clan from the east. The Ratha crest is an open palm holding a coin. The clan originally consisted of a group of the first families on the island to travel across the span of Sanol’Kaht and trade openly. Although the true blood Ratha descendants are far and few between, many of their kinsman carry at least some of the old blood in them, as the clan sought many lucrative arranged marriages with other houses.”

“Clan Talgul is one of the most well known old noble houses. They were the founders of the empire of Talgul, an expansive empire that stretched across the southwest corner of Sanol’Kaht. A powerful clan that embraced even more powerful magics, the Talgul advocated advancement through the arcane arts and founded the College of Magic. At their peak, the main family was considered among the most powerful mages in all of Sanol’Kaht. When Aega the Damned took over the College of magic, the family of Talgul could not foresee that their house would be scattered to the winds. After the Sorcerer Rebellions, the shrouded, abandoned remains of the city of Talgul are all that is left of their once great empire.

“Clan Kandarr”

“Clan Coldiron was a noble clan of the empire of Talgul. Even though they were ultimately subservient to the great house of Talgul, their power and influence during the empire’s reign cannot be questioned. Unfortunately they suffered the same tragedy that befell most of the old empire’s noble houses when the Sorcerer Rebellions occurred. Any remaining members should be reported to the nearest Inquisition fortress.”
